AB-109, PRCS, & 1170(H) PAROLE
Santa Cruz Barrios Unidos is a service provider under the AB 109, PRCS, & 1170 (H) Parole Programs. AB-109 is a statewide legislative order to reduce the prison population by releasing non-violent incarcerated individuals. PRCS is a result of Prop 47, “post-release community supervision,” in which previously incarcerated individuals are released under county probation supervision. And 1170(H) refers to state parole supervision. Santa Cruz Barrios Unidos’ role in this paradigm shift has been to provide comprehensive and culturally-based re-entry services to these individuals. Our staff has over 40 years of experience in working with our returning community members, providing them with cultural, spiritual and trauma-informed healing. This program demonstrates that with genuine support, our people can step into their authentic selves and live healthier, safer, and violence-free lives.
Santa Cruz Barrios Unidos Re-Entry groups consist of Evidence Based curriculum that helps individuals with confronting antisocial and criminal thinking behaviors. This program is designed to directly address specific thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs typically held by high-risk offenders, addicts, and people who perform antisocial behaviors. Classes offered at SCBU consists of looking at cultural competencies and documentary films that apply to group discussions. Each participant will receive a certificate of completion once they have finished all modules and required presentations in the class, demonstrating subject competency. Groups are held once a week at two different locations to help accommodate participants who are working or attending school.
